A STOURPORT shop owner has found a different use for her latest copy of The Shuttle.
As part of this year’s Stourport Carnival best dressed shop front display competition, Clare Shire-Jones, of Clarabella Dress Making and Clothing Alterations, in Lombard Street, has made a dress out of newspaper.
“I was trying to come up with something related to local business which we could make a dress out of to go into the window display for the carnival,” she said.
“The only thing I could come up with was the newspaper so I decided to make it out of copies of the Shuttle.
“It didn’t take too long to make - only about two hours – alongside just a bit of ingenuity and Sellotape.
“The dress isn’t styled after any in particular but looking at it, it is a bit like some of the prom dresses that we have been doing recently.”
The theme of Clarabella’s window display for this year’s carnival was The Tannery, a former leather factory in Lombard Street, which suffered a major fire 50 years ago.
Clare said: “The whole one side of the street used to be part of The Tannery.
“It was the biggest one outside of London, so that would have been unusual for a small town to have such a big industry.”
The shop display features the dress, alongside original leather items that were made at The Tannery and a brief history of the factory and Lombard Street.
Clare added: “We’re going to leave the display up for at least two or three weeks so people can come and learn more about what the area used to be.”
