PUPILS at a Stourport primary school were recently given a surprise visit from retired guide dog Crumble.

Year 1 children of Burlish Park Primary School are studying senses as part of their topic work this term and were "fascinated" to see how Crumble helped people who were blind.

The students were surprised to see how much Crumble had changed since being a puppy and learnt more about the training she has undertaken, from a young age, to become a guide dog.

Sara Claire, year 1 teacher, said: “This was a wonderful experience for the children and we all thoroughly enjoyed meeting Crumble.”

During the visit, there were opportunities for the children to stroke Crumble as well as asking questions to one of her trainers, Brian Lawrence.

The school is following up the visit by holding a Stand Out for Guide Dogs campaign by having the pupils wear bright colours to school as well as hosting a fundraising day as part of the nation-wide Guide Dog Week.
