LIBRARIES across Wyre Forest are taking part in Chatterbooks week which aims to encourage young people to exchange their ideas about books.

As part of this week's initiative, young people also can download free e-books and e-magazines from their local library.

Chatterbooks groups - specific reading groups for children aged 8 to 12-years-old who enjoy reading for pleasure - are also available at Bewdley and Stourport libraries.

As a national initiative run locally by Worcestershire County Council, Stourport’s Chatterbooks group will next meet at the town’s library on Saturday, October 18, November 15, and December 13, between 11am and noon.

Bewdley Library hosts its Chatterbooks group on the first Monday of every month between 4pm and 4.45pm.

Kathy Kirk, strategic libraries and learning manager, said: “Chatterbooks is another great initiative which encourages children to read widely and for pleasure.

“The Chatterbooks groups have been a really successful addition to our library's programme of regular events for young children.”

Bestselling author of the Tracy Beaker books, Jacqueline Wilson, is an ambassador for Chatterbooks.

“Taking part in this special Chatterbooks Week is a great way to celebrate the fun and excitement of sharing books,” she said.

“I know that the children will have a fantastic time getting together, finding out about great books and chatting – I can't wait to hear all about it.”
