IT was double delight for a Kidderminster Athletics coach after he picked up two awards at the Wyre Forest Sports Awards last night.

Ron Oliver, Chairman of Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club, was named the Unsung Hero at the award ceremony where he also took home the Most Developed Club of the Year award on behalf of the club.

The 58-year old, who has multiple roles at the club including the general secretary and coach, said he was very surprised to win the awards.

“I was very surprised and also very pleased, but I don’t do it for the awards and recognition,” he said.

“I do it for the love of the club, for its future and for the other members.

“The work I do at the club involves anything that needs to be done - which is usually all the jobs that no-one else wants to do.”

Ron has been a member of the club since the late 1980s, and thinks the family atmosphere of it is what makes it stand out from others.

He said: “We like to have all members of the family involved in the club and we bring everyone together.

“There is a real family environment and feel to everything we do."
