THE Mayor of Stourport is inviting friends, colleagues and Wyre Forest residents to a 1920s-themed evening to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Councillor Cliff Brewer is hosting a Gatsby event at Stourport Workmen’s Club in Lickhill Road on Friday (January 16) starting at 7.30pm.

The evening features a casino and music from Gloucestershire-based band Ain’t Misbehavin’, as well as refreshments of hot pork rolls, wedges and salad.

Mr Brewer said: “I chose the Gatsby theme as I wanted to do something a bit different as all the mayors in the area are doing very similar fundraising event for their chosen charities.

“To help put us in the 1920s spirit we will be supported by a brilliant band who will be playing the best songs from the time.”

The evening is part of Mr Brewer’s programme of activities to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan nurses which will help ensure cancer sufferers in the area have the support they need.

Mr Brewer said: “The organisation, particularly the nurses, do wonderful work in the care of cancer patients and I would like to raise at least £5,000 for them.

“I know that many people and families from the Wyre Forest area and Stourport in particular benefit from the support given by Macmillan.”

Also on the list of upcoming events Mr Brewer is hosting this year for Macmillan nurses are a school talent show, taking place on February 7 at Stourport Civic, a quiz evening, a sky jump and the grand Mayors Ball.

Tickets cost £25 and are available by calling Debbie Butler on 01562 732750.
