WYRE Forest performers will be putting on their dancing shoes for this year’s dance festival in Stourport.

The Wyre Forest Dance Festival will begin on Monday at Stourport Civic Hall until next Friday.

Local dance schools will be competing in a range of styles, including ballet solos, modern and cabaret groups from 9am until 9pm each day.

The Festival, organised by Wyre Forest District Council, will build up to the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Championships at the end of the week.

Throughout the festival, the adjudicator will choose the best of the competition dancers to enter the championships, with the winner and the runners-up receiving trophies.

Councillor Ian Hardiman, the district council’s cabinet member for community well-being, said: “There are around 1,000 entries expected this year which shows just how popular this event is.

“It’s a great opportunity for dance groups to showcase their talent in front of a live audience. It also gives children a chance to enjoy some entertainment during their February half-term week.”

Programmes will be available from the Worcestershire Hubs at Kidderminster Town Hall, Stourport at the Old Post Office, High Street or Bewdley Customer Service Centre, in Load Street.
