WOLVERLEY and Cookley residents are being called to a public meeting to discuss the future of a former hospital site.

People will be given the opportunity to respond to a recommendation by the Planning Inspectorate for the former Lea Castle Hospital site to be developed for mixed usage, including some private residential housing.

Labour Wyre Forest district councillor for Cookley, Chris Nicholls, will host the meeting at Cookley Village Hall at 7pm tomorrow.

The proposed modifications to the district council’s site allocations and policies local plan following the Planning Inspectorate’s report are now undergoing a period of public consultation until Thursday, March 28.

Mr Nicholls said: “I want to kick off the consultation period and find out what people’s views are.

“Something needs to be done sooner rather than later with the site. I am in favour of mixed usage and it is essential the site is developed as quickly as possible. I am going to reflect what people think.”

The hospital closed in 2008 and has since fallen into disrepair and become a target for metal thieves.
