The meeting opened with the sad news of the death of David Hill. David had been a long serving member of the committee and was responsible for many of the early outings and holidays so enjoyed by members.
His cheery “Good morning friends” as he opened his brief case to tell us of the latest holiday or outing will be fondly remembered.
Some 29 members enjoyed a lovely holiday on the Isle of Man. Reasonable weather, a comfortable hotel and good food were enjoyed by all. Thanks were extended to John and Brenda who organised the event.
A talk entitled “Tuneful Tubes” and table full of an assortment of strange looking musical instruments and plumbing accessories had us all guessing.
Speaker, David, soon demonstrated that with a little “Puff” almost any kind of “Tube” could be made to produce a tune.
From tiny tin whistles to the mighty Alpenhorn, hose pipes to bicycle pumps David could play them all. Even a pipe from the mystic east managed to charm a “snake “ from its basket. His talk ended with the group singing, Auld Lang Syne, accompanied by David on his favourite instrument, the Euphonium.
At the next meeting on April 17, Ed Hawan will give a talk entitled “The Willowman”.Meetings are held at the Lickhill Community Centre, Lickhill Road, Stourport starting at 10am.
