KIDDERMINSTER Arts Festival (KAF) is coming to an end this weekend and to round off the festivities the town hall will feature street dance, choirs and a peace cafe.

There will also be a First World War commemoration with a difference, as 661 pigeons will fly from Kidderminster back to their homes.

This will be in memory of the men who lost their lives in the conflict and the pigeons that helped in the war effort by providing vital communications.

Loz Samuels, arts and play development officer at Wyre Forest District Council, said: “I’m particularly looking forward to the pigeon liberation.

“I think it will be a really spectacular site.”

The pigeons will be released at 11am tomorrow morning from Weavers Wharf.

Also around the town tomorrow will be free acrobatic performances inside and around a rolling house from Acrojou – The Wheelhouse.

Other street entertainment comes from a rampaging grandma who will be meeting visitors around the town.

One of the major features of this year’s festival is the Chapel of Victories which is located inside Kidderminster Town Hall.

The chapel, which was created for the festival by artist Tracey Slough of PicaPica, is made from objects which have been found and inspired by local stories and includes shrines as a commemoration of human endeavour.

Once the festival is over on Sunday, the chapel is going to be divided up and sold in a blind auction to raise funds for next year’s arts festival.

There are 13 pieces of the chapel available for purchase in the blind auction, and anyone interested in purchasing part of the chapel can place a bid in the auction at the town hall until tomorrow.
