WYRE Forest Young Voices has completed a “hugely successful” concert tour to Prague.

The choir, which has more than 40 members aged 11 to 18, performed three times in the Czech Republic capital, singing a range of classical choral works, traditional folk music and songs from the shows.

Musical director Geoffrey Weaver led the trip with support from accompanist Mike Elden and vocal coach Suzzie Vango.

Mr Weaver said: “The tour was hugely successful with the choir enjoying resounding applause and standing ovations from enthusiastic crowds, as well as having a wonderful experience in the breathtaking city of Prague.

“People filled the venues and really appreciated the beauty and high level of performance achieved by the young singers and some audience members were even moved to tears.”

Wyre Forest Young Voices is the youth section of Kidderminster Choral Society and was established in 1997.

It has previously toured in Germany, Poland, Estonia and the Netherlands while in Cyprus it completed a reconciliation concert bringing together Greek and Turkish Cypriot choirs.

The youth choir has, according to Mr Weaver, “gained a reputation both in Great Britain and internationally and is considered one of the premier youth choirs in the Midlands”.

Young musicians interested in joining the group, which is recruiting new members throughout September, can contact Wendy James, choir co-ordinator, at wendy.alveley@btinternet.com or 07788 954520.

Rehearsals take place every Thursday during term-time at Baxter Church Hall from 5pm to 6.40pm.
