On Saturday, September 13 the group will stage a display and two online demonstrations on tracing Great War ancestors as part of the Heritage Opportunities Group’s Great War event at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Continuing the wartime theme, on Tuesday September 16 there will be a talk by Ross McNeill on RAF and ATA Records 1918-1945, taking place in the Corn Exchange at Kidderminster Town Hall at 2pm.

Publicity Officer Gay Hill, who is also the professional genealogist who will lead the family history demonstrations, said: “ September seems to have a wartime theme for us this year.

“As well as the display in the Town Hall, I will be giving two online demonstrations to help people trace Great War ancestors, at noon and 2pm. Following on from September 13, our group’s talk on September 16 will feature a talk about the history and evolution of the RAF, which started as the Royal Flying Corps, and how to research some of the records.

Speaker Ross McNeill will also talk about some of the stories he has unearthed, including the crash of Captain Rosamund King Everard Steenkamp between Button Oak and Arley. “ The HOGS event on September 13 is free and will take place between 10am and 4.30pm.

The talk on September 16 starts at 2pm.
