WYRE FOREST FRIENDSHIP CENTRE: Deposits for the "Good Old Days" trip are now due. Dressed in a pretty Georgian dress with matching bonnet Sandy Cale gave an informative talk on "Elegant Georgian Worcester". In Georgian times Worcester was a major trading town, bigger even than Gloucester. Many of it's classic buildings can still be seen today. There is the wonderful Town Hall, much praised by Pevsner. It's cells reminding us it was also once the Court House and in one week 17 sentences of hangings were handed down. In 1823 the firm of Lea and Perrins began making it's famous Worcester Sauce here. A major coaching centre it boasted 17 coaching inns the most famous being "The Crown Inn". Once it was the home of a thriving glove industry and of course the world famous Porcelain factory both now sadly not trading anymore.

At next months meeting on April 21 Derek Clarke will talk on the restoration of the Perseus and Andromeda Fountain at Witley Court.

Meeting are held at the Lickhill Community Centre, Lickhill Road, Stourport, starting at 10am.
