A USUALLY quiet and secluded area was disturbed by a flurry of police activity as officers swooped on Drakelow Tunnels in Wolverley, where a cannabis farm had been discovered underground.

A number of police cars and vans spent most of the day, from 9am yesterday, arriving along Kingsford Lane and Drakelow Lane, and more than 30 officers were at the site, with some manning two entrances either side of Drakelow Tunnels.

It was impossible not to notice the drama, which felt out of place in such a small community where the everyday noises of the binmen collecting rubbish and the postman on his rounds were accompanied by the sound of intense police activity.

Neighbours told The Shuttle they were shocked to learn what had been happening so close to home.

One Drakelow Lane resident, who did not want to be named, said: “We were a little puzzled this morning when we looked outside and saw four police cars and then a white police van. When I went into Kinver this morning there were three police cars at Drakelow Tunnels.

“I’m shocked and stunned at what’s happened. We moved to this part of the country to get away from this sort of thing. The police have to get to the bottom of this.

“We read about things like this in the paper in disused farms and buildings, then they have this big police raid and it’s a cannabis factory. I’m horrified to think there must have been vehicles toing and froing past our house with this stuff.”
