WOLVERLEY'S annual May Day Fair saw this year's village's carnival queen, princess and rosebud chosen.

The event, on Sunday, started with the Green Man coming out of Wolverley Woods as he marked the end of winter and the beginning of summer.d A Maypole Dance was then performed by Wolverley Maypole Dancers, followed by an appearance by the Svartland Vikings.

The "1st Viking queen", Laura Lane was selected as carnival queen. The 22-year-old's interests include Viking re-enactment, painting and jewellery making.

Shelby Smith was chosen as carnival princess. She is 10 and goes to Wolverley Sebright VA Primary School. Her interests include reading and playing with friends.

Lauren Parkinson will be carnival rosebud. The six-year-old goes to Wolverley Sebright VA Primary School and her interests include Wolverley Rainbows Guiding, helping to look after little children and walking her neighbour’s dog.

There were stalls to visit during the afternoon at the May fair, as well as archery, face painting, coconut shy and a barbecue, as well as homemade cakes. Music was played by Them Good ‘ol Boys and the Svartland Vikings staged battle re-enactments.

This year's Wolverley Carnival takes place on Saturday, July 5.
