OVER 50s from Wyre Forest, their families, friends and carers are being invited to celebrate "Silver Sunday" - by joining in a guided walk along the River Severn.

Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire and Worcester U3A are organising the scenic ramble this Sunday (October 5).

It will meet at the University of Worcester's Riverside Arena, setting off at 10.30am, with walkers led in groups by qualified leaders.

Susie Hart, head of recreation and sport strategy said, “Following the vibrant 2014 Active Ageing Festival, the University of Worcester has teamed up again with Age UK, the U3A, the Sport Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire, and Worcester City Council to celebrate the national Silver Sunday initiative.

"It is our shared ambition to have Worcester recognised nationally as an age friendly city, offering numerous community focused active ageing programmes."

The circular three and a half mile ‘Sabrina Steps’ walk, will incorporate Sabrina Bridge and Diglis Bridge, returning back to the Riverside Centre, where hot drinks and refreshments will be provided.

Walkers are also encouraged to bring along a packed lunch to be enjoyed after the walk - and are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
