MORE than 340 Santas gathered in Kidderminster to help raise money for Kemp Hospice.

The annual Santa Fun Run, where participants run 10k around the area from Brinton’s Park, raised more than £18,000 for the Wyre Forest-based hospice.

Kidderminster Harriers' midfield maestro Callum Gittings started the Santas on their journey as they walked, jogged or ran along the route, which took them down the Kidderminster canal towpath, through to the countryside, up to Wolverley, before returning to the park.

Kate Wilkinson, Kemp events fundraiser, said: “It was overwhelming to see so many Santas turn out to support KEMP Hospice.

“Many brought family and friends along to cheer them on their way and it was the most fantastic festive atmosphere.

“When they all started to run through the park, it was a magnificent sight, as the park became a sea of red Santas.

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to over 40 volunteers who helped marshal the course and make this event such great fun.”

Money raised will go towards providing free of charge support and specialist care to patients, families and carers dealing with life-limiting illness and bereavement.

Kemp Hospice needs to raise £940,000 annually to continue its services, the majority of which comes from voluntary donations and the support of the local community.
