Family survive cupboard fire

9:39am Thursday 30th August 2001

A BROMLEY household narrowly escaped disaster when their airing cupboard burst into flames.

Firefighters with breathing apparatus took 15 minutes to extinguish the fire at a house in Beverley Road after residents failed to stop the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

The upstairs of the house suffered extensive smoke damage but no-one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and an electrical fault is suspected.

Two fire engines from Bromley attended the blaze at 4pm on Tuesday, August 28, and firefighters shut off the electrical supply.

Bromley Station Officer Eamon Meehan said: “The family had a lucky escape.

“If we hadn't been called so quickly the house could have been more seriously damaged.”
