Caroline begins her year in office

A WOMAN, who works tirelessly in many capacities for the benefit of her local community, is the new chairman of Bromsgrove District Council.

Caroline Spencer, from Aston Fields, represents the Slideslow ward on the council for the Conservatives. She was chosen for the prestigious post at last night's (Wednesday's) annual meeting of the council.

Councillor Spencer, who is a secretary for the Mid-Worcestershire Conservative Association, is married to John, a retired Garringtons (UEF) worker. The couple have two daughters and three grandchildren.

She is also a parish councillor, is actively involved in her local church's affairs and is also a governor at three local schools.

She will hold the post for a year. The chosen charities she will support during her term in office are the Friends of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The new district council vice-chairman is Cllr Chris Scurrell (Con-Hagley) who, with his wife Meriel, lives in Fairfield. Outside of politics his passion is steam trains - a hobby which has taken him across the world to many exotic locations.
