Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint

A TAXI driver has been robbed at knifepoint by his passengers in Church Hill.

The incident occured at approximately 10pm on Monday, April 21, when the driver responded to a call from a woman calling herself Jo.

He picked up a man and a woman from outside a phone kiosk in Edgeworth Close and after initially asking to be taken to Tesco, they redirected him to Abberley Close in Church Hill.

Upon arrival, the male passenger, who had been sitting in the front of the cab, pulled a balaclava over his head and threatened the driver with a knife, demanding money.

The female passenger, who was sitting in the back also threatened him with a second knife.

The robbers took the taxi driver's wallet containing £10 in cash and his bank cards. They also took a Nokia mobile phone, a Tom Tom satellite navigation system and a bag containing loose change.

Investigating officer, Pc Laura White, said: "This was obviously a frightening ordeal for the taxi driver and it is important we trace the offenders as soon as possible. It may be that someone recognises the descriptions or saw them waiting in Edgeworth Close before the taxi arrived there or around Abberley Close after the robbery.

"I would urge anyone who has any information which could help us to get in touch immediately."

The taxi driver suffered a small cut to his left cheek, which luckily didn't require hospital treatment.

The male robber is described as white and slim, aged between 20 and 30 years old, with a long thin face. He was wearing a navy blue woolly hat, which he pulled over his face, and gloves, as well as a green coat and white trainers.

The woman was also white, 20 to 30 years old, around 5ft tall and wearing dark clothing.

Witnesses or anyone who may have information regarding the incident, is asked to contact Redditch police on 08457 444888 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
