A KINVER teenager who combines farming and firefighting is in line for an award to mark his studying success.

Luke Sadler, aged 18, is the only farmer to make it through to the finals of the Staffordshire Apprenticeship Awards.

Retained firefighter Luke works on his father's farm in Church Hill while studying at Rodbaston College, Staffordshire, where he is set to become the first member of his group to pass a level 2 farming qualification.

Luke said: "I've wanted to work on the farm for as long as I can remember, ever since seeing dad at work.

"It is a family farm and my granddad still helps out. I don't really have any favourite animals or prefer any particular side of the farm work, I enjoy it all. Once I've finished my studies I look forward to being able to spend more time on the farm and then owning my own.

"The firefighting is something I wanted to do for the community and knowing what to do in an emergency is always useful."

Results will be announced at a ceremony, hosted by Staffordshire Providers Association in association with Staffordshire Learning and Skills Council, on Thursday May 15 at the Moat House Hotel in Stoke.
