School to host national conference

SUNFIELD School in Clent is hosting a major national conference to consider the opportunities available to disabled children and their families.

Taking place at the Woodman Lane school on May 23, the Does every disabled child really matter?' event will feature a talk by key speaker Christine Lenehan, director of the Council for Disabled Children, one of four organisations behind the continuing independent campaign Every Disabled Child Matters.

It will also feature workshops and highlight progress made by the campaign; as well as a talk by Philippa Russell, chairman of the Standing Comission on Carers, on new opportunities in social care policy to support family carers with a disabled child.

Sunfield chief executive Barry Carpenter said: "Every day we hear of families in crisis due to the lack of appropriate provision for their disabled child. Yet practitioners are working hard to create positive solutions. This is a chance to learn from each other, and find if every disabled child truly does matter?"
