Rare art deco pieces to go on sale

A STOURBRIDGE auctioneers firm is set to dazzle the antiques world with an exhibition and sale comprising more than half a million pounds worth of highly sought-after art deco pottery.

Fieldings Auctioneers is holding the first Clarice Cliff official collectors club auction outside of London; sales are normally exclusive to top auction house Christies.

Auctioneer Will Farmer told the News: "For a provincial house to take this sale out of London is very exciting."

Taking place on Saturday May 31 - the sale will feature nearly 300 items by Clarice and her contemporaries - ranging from £30 to £10,000 a piece.

And ahead of the auction, Fieldings is also holding a mammoth exhibition of pieces by Clarice Cliff, Keith Murray, Poole Pottery's Carter, Stabler and Adams and Lenci Italian art deco figurines at its Mill Race Lane auctionhouse.

Will added: "It's going to be a really rare exhibition, we've been building this for five months. Collectors will be coming from all over the country and everybody in Stourbridge can come and see this."

In the meantime, Antiques Roadshow presenter Will is on the lookout for rare pieces by Clarice Cliff that may have been stashed away in the attic.

He said: "I know there's Clarice out there - it would be so nice if we could fish out something really rare to add to the exhibition. It would be great to find a £40,000 Clarice piece stuffed in the back of someone's wardrobe."

The exhibition will run for three days on Thursday May 29, Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31 - and the sale on May 31 will kick off at midday.
