A CONCERT based on the life of a much-loved Black Country teacher will raise funds for Cancer Research.

Penny Forster, who lived in Lye, was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009 and after a long and gruelling battle, she died in September last year, aged 54.

Throughout her career, she taught at Mount Pleasant Primary, Lutley Primary and Pens Meadow, where she became assistant headteacher.

George Stuart, who is dating Penny's daughter, Anna, was inspired to tell her story on stage as part of his final year project.

The 20-year-old, who is doing an operatic vocal degree at Birmingham Conservatoire, said: "Having being involved in musical theatre for 10 years myself, and knowing Penny’s love for all things musical, it seemed a fitting way to celebrate the life of a truly inspirational lady.”

He said all proceeds from the event would be donated to Cancer Research as "the charity works so hard to prevent even more people from falling victim to this awful disease".

Penny For Your Thoughts will use songs from the world of musical theatre along with moving image, and a cast and band comprising 35 people.

George added: "The concert will tell Penny’s story, from start to finish, using songs that we all love to perform from the world of musical theatre. It promises to be a funny, reflective and emotional night to commemorate one amazing lady."

The concert will take place on January 9 at the Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham.

Tickets, priced £12 for adults and £9 for students and under 10s, are available by emailing penniesforpenny@hotmail.com or calling 07939029160.
