A KINVER singer is making a bid for Christmas number one with a song that commemorates those who fought in World War One.

Abby Scott, aged 29, features on 1914 – A Christmas Carol, a single that will raise funds for several British Armed Forces charities.

She is joined by Flight Lieutenant Matt Little, a Canterbury Cathedral chorister, and the RAF Spitfire Choir on the track, composed by Chris Eaton.

The video for the song was filmed at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey, which Mrs Scott said was an "incredibly powerful experience".

The singer/songwriter said it was "a huge honour" to be involved and added: "As a mum, I can’t even imagine sending my son off to war or having my husband not come home.

"Almost every family and every village in the country was affected by the Great War. Our song honours both those who died and the families who grieved back at home.”

Profits from sales will go to The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, ABF The Soldier’s Charity and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

It is now available to pre-order, via www.rafbf.org/1914.
