LOVED ones were remembered at a special service in Pershore in the run up to Christmas.

The Service of Remembrance and Reflection was held at Pershore Cemetery for those who have lost loves ones who have been buried in the cemetery in the past year.

The recently refurbished chapel was lit with almost 200 candles, which provided a wonderful atmosphere for such an occasion and as darkness fell the chapel was bathed in a warm glow as the floodlighting was switched on.

This candlelit service was attended by nearly 60 people and led by Reverend Mark Jennings.

During the service those attending wrote their thoughts on stars which were then hung on the Christmas Tree and lit candles in their memory of their loved ones.

Music was provided by some members of the town choir and the event was followed by seasonal drinks and mince pies.

This is the second time the cemetery chapel has hosted such an event and following on from last year’s successful service there are now plans to make this an annual event.

Councillor Chris Parsons, chairman of the town council cemetery committee said: "It was wonderful to see the chapel being used for an event such as this.

"The service, whilst being very moving, also provided a great deal of comfort for those attending and the town council are now intending to hold this service every year at Christmas time."
