WILDLIFE lovers in Droitwich are being invited to take part in a range of wildlife discovery courses on offer from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.

The courses, which cover everything from finding out more about birdsong, to getting clued up about slugs, and learning more wildflowers, bats, water voles, and fungi, catering to everyone from complete beginners who are interested to know more, to people with a basic knowledge of the subject.

Hannah Thomas, engagement officer for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, said: “Our wildlife discovery courses are a great opportunity for people to dip their toes into the fascinating world of wildlife or to build on knowledge they already have.

“Some of our courses are aimed at people with absolutely no knowledge whatsoever and some are more suitable for people who know some of the basics.

“The sessions are informal and friendly with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get advice on how to continue learning back at home.”

The sessions are being organised to make the most of the wildlife calendar, with three birdsong course planned throughout May.

Birdsong Identification for Beginners will be taking place on Saturday, May 2 at Lower Smite Farm near Droitwich, with Birdsong Identification for Absolute Beginners taking place on Saturday, May 9 at the Knapp and Papermill nature reserve, and another Birdwatching for Absolute Beginners course happening on Saturday, May 30 at Upton Warren nature reserve in Wychbold.

Each of the sessions is being led by a local person with an expert knowledge of their subject, and the birdsong identification courses will aim to help participants understand the basics of birdsong, with a walk around each venue to reinforce identification of the species encountered there.

Ms Thomas added: “It doesn’t matter whether you’re fascinated by the cute and cuddly or the slimy and secretive, there is something for everyone.

“We run courses every year and they’re always really popular. Each course is limited to between 10 and 15 participants depending on subject and location so they usually get booked up; we advise anyone who’s interested to call us and book their place before it’s too late.”

Courses cost £15 or £20 per person and booking is essential. For more information, visit worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/courses or contact Hannah Thomas by calling 01905 754919 or writing to hannah@worcestershirewildlifetrust.org.
