A NEW firm has taken on the role of developing 110 homes on a field in Hereford.

Barratt West Midlands is seeking permission from Herefordshire Council for reserved matters relating to the site off Hampton Dene Road in Hampton Dene.

The principal of development on the site, which is opposite the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, was approved earlier this year with this application focusing on more specific issues such as layout.

Barratt says it wants to build a "distinctive and high quality place that enhances the character of Hampton Dene Road".

"The scheme will create a well-balanced, distinct and vibrant neighbourhood that will provide for all ages, economic situations and lifestyle," it said.

The development will include areas of public open space, play areas for children, and communal allotments.

Thirty nine of the 110 homes will be classed as "affordable housing".

Of these, 21 would be rented, with the remaining 18 offered for shared ownership.

Barratt has earmarked a community park in the centre of the development, adding links to nearby Holywell Gutter Lane and Queenswood Drive are also planned.

The firm has acquired the site off Gladman Developments which secured outline planning permission for the site earlier this year.

Gladman had initially wanted to build 120 homes.

A decision on whether Barratt's bid is successful is expected to be made by August.
