A 22-YEAR-OLD Kidderminster man appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm.

Oliver Westwood allegedly fractured Toby Wilkes' eye socket on July 5, but when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, July 30, he gave no indication of his plea.

He also appeared charged with possessing the Class B drug cannabis on July 7. Westwood, of Hurcott Road, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to this. Mark Soper, prosecuting, said the amount he was found with was small.

In mitigation, Fergus Maxwell said the drugs were for personal use only.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury fined Westwood £75 and also ordered he pay £180 in court charges, £85 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

The District Judge ruled the GBH case to be too serious for the magistrates court to deal with and sent it to Worcester Crown Court for a first hearing on September 11.

Westwood was granted bail to attend on that date on the condition he does not contact the victim or the witnesses, does not enter the town centre between 10pm and 6am, and does no enter any licensed premises in Kidderminster between the same times.
