LANDLORDS across the borough are being urged to apply for funding to help keep their properties up to energy saving standard.

Dudley Council’s Winter Warmth Scheme is contacting thousands of landlords to see if they are eligible for free boilers, as well as cavity wall and loft insulation.

Tenants need to be claiming certain benefits to be able to receiving funding for replacement boilers, but loft and cavity wall insulation measures are available to all householders.

Councillor Gaye Partridge, Dudley cabinet member for housing, said: “We are writing to the 5,500 landlords in the borough to see if they are entitled to funding for replacement boilers and also to encourage them to apply for free loft and cavity wall insulation.

“It is in their interest to take advantage of this scheme as it should help to reduce their maintenance costs as well as helping tenants to save money on their energy bills.

“We would also remind landlords that if they do not keep their properties up to standard that they can be prosecuted by the council.”

The energy saving measures are funded through the government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme which runs until March 2017.
