A HEREFORD man branded as having the 'world record for driving while disqualified' with 40 offences to his name has been told he could go to prison.

Tracy Jessie Warner, 48, of Croft Lane Caravan Park, Luston, Leominster pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates Court on Thursday to driving while over the drink drive limit, without insurance or without a licence.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching a conditional discharge for a theft from a shop offence.

Mark Soper, prosecuting said that on January 17, police received reports that Warner was drink driving.

They looked for his silver Ford KA before following it into Churchill Avenue and South Street.

Mr Soper added: "He was pulled over at a petrol station with a lady passenger and Warner had clearly been drinking."

When tested Warner blew three and a half times over the drink drive limit.

Philip Cornell, mitigating, said that Warner who had an expired provision licence had a chronic drink problem which was behind a lot of his behaviour.

"He accepts that he holds the world record for driving while disqualified 40 times," said Mr Cornell.

"His last disqualification was 1996 though and if we could cut to the chase and tackle his alcoholism we could help him in the the future."

Mr Cornell added that the passenger was going for a bottle of lucozade as she felt an attack as she hadn't taken her insulin.

He added: "He had drunk too much so said he would take her to the petrol station in the spur of the moment."

Magistrates adjourned the case for two weeks for a probation report to be prepared but said that they were considering a prison sentence due to their guidelines.
