A CHARITY is encouraging Worcestershire residents to become volunteers and support a new project supporting people in residential care homes.

Onside, which works across the county, is looking for people to take on the role of a Relevant Persons Representative (RPR).

The role safeguards the rights of vulnerable people who don't have the mental capacity to consent to care or treatment.

This involves visiting people with dementia, learning difficulties and who are assessed to have a lack of capacity to consent to living in residential care.

RPRs visit a person once every couple of months, and visits usually last for no more than one hour. Free training is provided so that volunteers can carry out the role, and all expenses are paid.

Onside’s volunteer manager, Claire Watkins, said: “Our volunteers give their time, their passion and enthusiasm, this is a great time to volunteer in this new and exciting role.

"This particular role is very worthwhile and extremely rewarding."

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcomed - all that is needed is listening skills and being able to give a small amount of time.

Potential volunteers are asked to call Claire Watkins on 01905 27525 or email claire.watkins@onside-advocacy.org.uk.
