A PLAN has been submitted to build more than 70 new homes near Ludlow town centre.

Willsgrove Developments want to build 74 houses flats and maisonettes on the site of the former quarry in Fishmore Road.

However, they have not made any provision for affordable homes in the scheme – these are homes for rent or shared ownership.

The scheme envisages 23 flats or maisonettes with two bedrooms, eight two-bedroom houses and five with four bedrooms or more. All of the remaining 39 would have three bedrooms.

Andy Boddington who represents Ludlow on Shropshire Council has mixed feelings about the proposal.

“This site should be developed,” he said.

“It is suitable for a high density of housing, even though that will increase traffic along Fishmore Road. It is a sustainable location within walking distance of the town centre, though it lacks a nearby bus route.

“If these plans are approved, there will be no affordable housing provided. The site plans also lack sufficient sustainable drainage and I am not happy with play area provision.”
