A FELLOW Unionist Club member has paid tribute to a beloved friend and prominent Bromsgrove businessman David Banner, who died in August this year.

On top of working at Banners Restaurant and foods, David was a husband, a father, a grandfather, an author and the president of Bromsgrove Unionist Club.

His friend and club member Kevin Cassidy said: "He was a life member of the Bromsgrove Unionist Club where he held office for some years and was an active president when he died. At the club he often demonstrated his expertise at solving crosswords, delighting in answering the final difficult clue when others had long given up."

David, who lived in Aston Fields, was born at the start of the Second World War, and was the third son of the village butcher.

Following his education at Bromsgrove County High School, he worked for his entire life in the food retail and farming trades.

David was married to his wife Jill for more than 50 years, and had three sons, a grandchild and a great grandchild.

He was known for his love of history and his unwavering support of his favourite football club Aston Villa.

Kevin added: "Along with his loving family and so many other friends, I will miss David. Goodbye David - it was great to know you."
