GREEN fingered gardening club members raised £1,000 for a charity set up in memory of an Evesham teenager.

The Bretforton Garden Club presented the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust with a cheque during a visit to a blood cancer charity in London.

The money was raised during the club's Bretforton Open Gardens events, which took place earlier in the year.

Representatives from the Trust - founded by Tracy's mum Sue Sollis - visited the Anthony Nolan Research Institute in Hampstead, where they were presented with the donation.

Mrs Sollis, founder of the Trust, said: "All of the money donated goes towards providing care for people suffering from leukaemia and helping to fund research, particularly through the Anthony Nolan Research Institute.

"We are delighted to have received such a wonderful donation from Bretforton Garden Club and to demonstrate how much benefit will come from the monies. We are grateful to everyone who helped make the event happen."

As well as being the world’s leading blood cancer charity and holder of the Bone Marrow Register, the Institute is conducting world class research into stem cell matching and transplants to make sure every person with blood cancer gets the best possible treatment.

A spokesman for the garden club said: "It was amazing to see how much equipment the Trust had donated, including funding the Tracy Sollis Laboratory."
