A SPORTS centre took part in a national biking challenge to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.

Nunnery Wood Sports Centre invited people to join a spinathon , known as On Yer Bike on Saturday, cycling for 20 minutes at a time before rotating.

The money goes towards Brain Tumour Research, who fund four centres of excellence at Portsmouth and Plymouth universities, Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College.

Dominika Rogowska, sales duty manager at Nunnery Wood Sports Complex said: "Everyone had a really good time helping to raise money for charity.

"It was hard work but it was well worth it.

"Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1 percent of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

"We have all been affected by cancer, whether a family member has gone through it, a friend a teacher, employee or even ourselves."

The On Yer Bike initiative began as a local event and was inspired by 36-year-old Paul Halfpenny from Hadfield, Derbyshire who passed away in 2014 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

It is not sure how much was raised as of yet.
