Why does austerity go on and on? Why are our health and social services in crisis? Why are the Conservatives cutting £10million from Herefordshire’s schools’ budget?

We’re the 6th largest economy in the world. But there isn’t enough housing for our youngsters; our roads are melting before our eyes. It’s the Conservatives’ political choice. It doesn’t have to be so.

The Lib Dems’ plan to save the health and social care services is: 1p on income tax to inject £6bn into services now; then bring together all involved parties to decide the integration and future for the NHS and care, and take it out of politics.

Our plan for education is: raise corporation tax to inject £7bn to save our schools and teachers now. Invest in teachers, lift their workload and free them to teach; keep and extend free lunches for infants to the whole primary school.

It’s not rocket science. But the Conservatives are consumed by Brexit. Nothing else will get a look in. For what?

To leave the single market, which British drive created; the largest free trade area on the planet; that many Herefordshire businesses rely on - no customs, no tariffs. Even prominent Leave campaigners think it’s crazy.

But Mrs May and her Brexiteers don’t see the damage it will do to people’s businesses, our economy, our youngsters’ aspirations to work and study across Europe. The choice on whether any deal she makes is good for Britain must be for all of us, not just the politicians.
