A NORTH Herefordshire oak framing firm has received an award for a project it completed in the South East.

Border Oak, based in Kingsland, was awarded an LABC Building Excellence Award for a private home it built in partnership with Herefordshire Council's Build Control – even though the project was in Surrey.

Merry Albright, of Border Oak, said: "We were delighted to receive this award because the standard of entries was incredibly high in this huge region, and we knew we were the underdogs.

"We usually work with Herefordshire Building Control for our Building Regulations applications no matter where our project may be, as they have a very thorough specialist knowledge of oak framing and our innovative construction details, which has been developed over many decades in partnership, and we like to support Herefordshire wherever possible."

The wining project, a single-storey oak framed contemporary home in Surrey was awarded Best Individual New Build Home, and now proceeds to the grand finals in London this November.

Mr Albright added: "It is always wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate what Herefordshire companies can do and to showcase our work to a wider audience - this award highlights Herefordshire manufacturing, craftsmanship and products together with Herefordshire technical expertise and innovative skills and great team work."
