A WOODLAND near Malvern which is popular with walkers has been closed to the public indefinitely.
The Three Counties Agricultural Society, which owns Langdale Wood, off Blackmore Park Road, says the move has been made for safety reasons following high winds this week.
The closure comes two days after Malvern Hills District Council refused planning permission to build 50 holiday lodges in the woodlands, a project that was fiercely opposed by people who enjoy walking there.
A statement issued by the society today says: "Langdale Wood will be closed until further notice. The decision has been taken following damage caused by recent high winds.
"This is precautionary action to ensure safety and avoid potential injury to public users of the wood.
"We understand the area is used by many people and that this closure may cause disappointment but we cannot risk injury while the area is considered unsafe.
"Further updates will be provided at www.threecounties.co.uk."
