A NEW group has been set up to support Worcestershire people affected by blood cancer.

The Worcester Haematology Support Group has been set up by Leukaemia Care, a national charity based in Worcester which provides advice and support to anybody who has been affected by blood cancer.

Leukaemia Care is a charity committed to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. As well as support groups the charity has a helpline and an informative website, and organise, patient and carer conferences, nurse education days, cancer campaigning and circulating accredited cancer information and literature.

The support group is open to Worcester patients, as well as their family and friends.

The first meeting of the group is being held tomorrow between, 7pm and 9pm, at Leukaemia Care HQ, One Birch Court, Blackpole East, Worcester,

Representatives from Severn Free Wheelers - the unsung volunteers which provide a free out of hours courier service, transporting blood each year - will also be at the meeting giving a talk to group members.

Nickey Bate, who co-ordinates the support groups for Leukaemia Care, said, “Our support groups are a great opportunity for patients and their loved ones to meet others in a similar situation.

“We’re looking forward to the ongoing development of the Worcester support group.”
