TO celebrate his 70th birthday Pete Jackson is taking on a 70-mile challenge.
The Upper Sapey resident will visit war memorials in most of the parishes surrounding Bromyard and Winslow District.
At each memorial he will leave a Bromyard Bypass Poppy bearing the message Bromyard Remembering Everyone.
The poppies have been made by the community using pop and milk bottles and will be carried during a poppy pageant parade in Bromyard in September then later in October they will be planted in a swathe down the town’s bypass.
The last poppy, which Pete will carry with him throughout his walk, will be laid by Pete and his granddaughter at the Cenotaph at the Bromyard Rugby Club on September 15 at the parade.
Pete is retired and turns 70 in August. He is a seasoned walker and has previously taken part in sponsored walks in the UK and Africa. He is a member of the Bromyard branch of the Royal British Legion and linked the walk the branch's First World War commemorations.
Pete launches his Poppy Parish Walk at the Tenbury Road Co-op, Bromyard, on August 10. For more details please contact: nrmndnn@gmail.com, rblbromyard@hotmail.com or jebm@supanet.com.
