SPORTY students at St John's Middle School had their success at district, county and regional level recognised at an awards ceremony on July 5.

The school's annual sports awards night, which was held in the Routh Hall, saw teams congratulated for their successes over the last 12 months by guest presenter and England Roses player Jodie Gibson.

The Super 6 Athletics team received a special mention for their achievements running track, field and relay races at district level, and for last week winning gold medals as county champions.

Head of PE at St John's Natasha Birmingham said: "All of the children were presented their awards by Jodie and she ended the evening talking of her own success, obstacles and mentioned how inspired she was by her own PE teachers when she was younger.

"The children were particularly excited when at the end of the event they were able to get a close up look at her gold commonwealth medal which she won this year."

'Team of the Year' was awarded to the year eight rugby team, who were named Worcestershire U13 Plate winners this season.

Natasha added: "All achievements in sport are important to us and are symbolised in the selection of prizes we award during the evening.

"We are extremely proud of the commitment of both our staff and students who have worked hard together living out our motto – 'give of your best'."
