A MAN who has been disqualified from driving said he got into the car following an argument.

Nigel Gilks admitted driving a Ford Focus after drinking excess alcohol on the A38 in Droitwich at about 10pm on May 27.

The 57-year-old gave a reading of 204 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, exceeding the prescribed limit of 80.

Gilks, representing himself, said: “I was arguing with the lass I was with.

"She was getting a taxi - I just jumped into a car and went over to Droitwich.”

Prosecuting, Shafquat Reaz, said samples were taken and that Gilks was arrested at 22.15pm and conveyed to Worcester custody.

He was disqualified for 22 months at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Gilks, of Green View, North End Lane, Malvern, was offered a drink drive rehabilitation course, which if completed to a satisfactory standard will reduce his ban by up to a quarter.

He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay court costs of £135 and a £30 victim surcharge.
