MEN across Halesowen are being invited to a prostate cancer awareness event to help them to spot early warning signs.

Wychbury Patients Participation Group will host the event at Cradley Community Centre, in Colley Lane, from 10am until 1pm, on Saturday, September 22.

During the day, patients will have the chance to learn about prostate cancer, what the early warning signs are, how they can be tested to ensure they get early treatment and what the treatment options are.

Bill Beardow, vice chairman and secretary of Wychbury PPG, said: “One in eight men have prostate cancer. Half of these men could die because they did not get diagnosed early enough.”

Open to all patients who do not need to be registered with the Wychbury Medical Group, the event will feature speeches from two leading authorities on prostate cancer – David Baxter Smith, a retired urology consultant and chairman of Worcestershire Prostate Awareness Trust, and Alan Docherty, a senior consultant at QE Birmingham and director of Birmingham Prostate Clinic.

There will also be plenty of time to ask questions of the two main speakers, to speak with Dr Adam Hardie – a GP with Wychbury Medical Group – and the chance to meet with other patients and medical staff.

Men over 45 can also sign up for PSA testing, or can be provided with a form to consult with their own GP practice.
