HEALTH minister Philip Dunne MP is to visit Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital in the New Year.
Redditch MP Karen Lumley requested the visit so that the minister, whose portfolio includes hospital care, can talk to management and staff and see the facilities available at the Woodrow Drive Hospital.
Mrs Lumley said: "I wanted the Minister to see for himself what services are available at the hospital, and what is now needed, particularly to be able to facilitate Rory the Robot in the existing theatres.
"He will then be able to assess properly what upgrades are necessary in order to be able to accommodate this new state-of-the-art technology."
No date has been set for the visit but it is hoped it will be able to happen soon in the New Year.
A current appeal aims to raise £1.6 million for Rory the Robot. Up to 150 radical prostate cancer surgeries a year are performed in Worcestershire and with Rory's assistance, patients will benefit from less pain, minimal blood loss, quicker recovery and reduced complications.
