HUNDREDS turned out in Redditch to show their support for the country's servicemen and women as part of Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

The sun shone and the streets were lined with people watching a marching band, veterans carrying the standards, cadets and the three branches of the serving armed services.

The event, a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, started at noon from Redditch Town Hall.

The civic party, including Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, took the salute at the town hall before joining a parade, open to all local uniformed groups and regimental organisations, to St Stephen's Church.

Once there, there was a short service led by Rev Paul Lawlor followed by some refreshments in the church.

At 1.30pm the procession marched back to the town hall.

Redditch councillor Bill Hartnett said: "I really enjoyed the day, we were blessed with great weather which meant we had time to stop and chat with the veterans in the sunshine outside the church.

"I would like to thank all who attended and all who helped arrange the day."

There were also a number of other events and activities taking place throughout the day, including a bouncy castle, information stalls, and a Palace Youth Theatre performance.
