A MAN has been taken to hospital after a fire at an electrical substation in Upton Warren left 6,000 Bromsgrove homes without power.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at 12.52pm this afternoon (Friday, February 9), and crews from Worcester, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Droitwich and Redditch fire stations were dispatched to the A38 Worcester Road.
More than 6,000 homes were down across the district, with Wychbold and Upton Warren most severly affected, and electricity supply to several properties was blocked for safety reasons.
Firefighters are now damping down the substation and a nearby building, after using breathing apparatus and compressed air foam to defeat the flames. The site has been partially isolated.
A man has been taken to hospital, but his condition remains unknown.
Western Power Distribution confirmed to the Advertiser that all power was restored by 4.30pm.
Group Commander George Marshall said earlier: “The electrical substation has been partially isolated and the firefighters in attendance are working hard to contain the fire.
“Electricity supplies may be affected throughout the North of Worcestershire maybe affected.
"We are working hard with Western Power and hope to restore electricity as soon as possible.”
Residents have taken to social media to report the problem, with one driver describing the traffic lights at the Hanbury Turn as a 'free for all'.
Police are warning drivers to approach traffic light junctions with caution.
