A MEMORIAL bench paying tribute to a Bewdley teenager who tragically died in a crash outside West Midland Safari Park has been unveiled.
Family, friends and Bewdley businesses all donated funds for the commemorative bench in honour of Lewis Chambers.
Lewis, who worked at the Safari Park, was just 16 when he was hit by a car on the A456 on December 20, 2015 having just finished his shift.
He suffered multiple injuries and died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham the next day, leaving his family and friends - including little brother Ben, step-sister Amy and best friend Josh Rossiter – devastated.
The commemorative bench is situated in Riverside Park, overlooking the River Severn where Lewis spent many happy hours
Two plaques are on the bench, one which reads ‘In Loving Memory of our Treasured Son Lewis Chambers’ and the other which is inscribed ‘In Loving Memory of my Best Friend Lewis from Josh’.
Josh, who was at the unveiling of the bench, said: “I miss my best mate every day.”
Last week, 36-year-old Kirk Busby was killed at the same spot after he was struck by a Mercedes Sprinter van at around 4.50am on January 29. The driver was arrested and since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
