CHESTNUT and Brookside Children's Centres in Kidderminster are providing yoga sessions for young children and their parents and carers, tapping into the increasing popularity of the activity.

Yoga is a fun, non-competitive exercise that keeps young children fit and healthy as well as encouraging bonding and “quality time” between them and their parent or carer.

Typical yoga sessions are adapted so children are “exploring through a forest”, act out the weather or go “star searching”, all of which include recognisable stretches and movements.

Jackie Birchley, Worcestershire County Council's children's centre service manager, said: "Yoga is a great family activity and we are delighted that Worcestershire is able to offer such interesting, new and exciting sessions in our children's centres.

“Yoga promotes health, fitness and bonding between children and their parents and carers, as well as being great fun."

There are extra yoga sessions starting up over the next few weeks.

A Baby Yoga session will start on November 12 and last four weeks at the Tree Top Children's Centre in Kidderminster. For more information, call 01562 514980.
