REDDITCH library will close for two weeks so the town's Jobcentre Plus can be moved in.

The library will close on February 26 and will reopen on March 12.

The Advertiser reported in January 2017 that the Jobcentre Plus was set to close under reforms to deal with 'under-used' buildings.

Union officials at the time claimed more than one in 10 jobcentres in England, Wales and Scotland would shut, putting thousands of staff jobs at risk.

The Department for Work and Pensions said it expected affected employees to move to other sites, adding that any redundancies would be 'very small'.

Worcestershire County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities, said: "We know how important libraries are to people and by sharing library space with other organisations, it means we can reduce overall costs and ensure the future of these vital services.

"We've already seen successful co-locations with job centres at Malvern Library and Bromsgrove Parkside, which have both benefitted from upgraded library facilities and an increase in library customers."

As well as it housing the Jobcentre Plus the library will have new furniture, carpets and decoration.

While the library is closed, people can go to libraries in Woodrow and Alvechurch.
