AN anonymous five-figure donation from a former Kidderminster Hospital patient has taken the Shuttlebacked scanner appeal total to more than £30,000.

The £20,000 cash injection was given to members of the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends towards their £125,000 cause.

The group wants to raise £65,000 for software for the hospital’s new CT (computed tomography) scanner, which was installed last month, and £60,000 to pay for the building work carried out to allow the old model to be replaced.

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, said members were extremely grateful for the generous donation.

He added: “We had a call at the office from someone asking us for the details about the appeal so they could make sure it was a worthwhile project.

“Then we received this cheque, which we’re so grateful for. It just shows members of the public are so supportive of the service they get at Kidderminster Hospital.”

Mr Picken said he was pleased with how the appeal had been progressing so far.

“Things are going very well,” he added. “We’re so grateful because so many people are now getting the benefits of the new scanner, which is particularly relevant to those patients who have cancer. We again urge the public to support our appeal.”

Meanwhile, a dance will be held at St John’s Hall, Kidderminster in aid of the appeal on Saturday, May 25 from 7.30pm until 10.30pm.

There will be sequence, ballroom and line dancing on the night as well as a tombola.

People can get tickets or further information by contacting organiser Maureen Howes on 01299 823800.

Mr Picken added: “We are asking people who are thinking of holding events to contact us on 01562 67653.”

Gift aid sponsorship forms are available from the League of Friends’ Swan Centre store and The Shuttle offices in Blackwell Street, Kidderminster.
